The working principle of a biosafety cabinet is mainly to extract the air inside the cabinet outward, keeping the cabinet in a negative pressure state, and protecting workers through vertical airflow; The external air is filtered by a high efficiency particulate air filter (HEPA filter) and enters the safety cabinet to avoid contamination of the processed samples; The air inside the cabinet also needs to be filtered through HEPA filters before being discharged into the atmosphere to protect the environment.
Biosafety cabinets generally consist of two parts: a box and a bracket. The box mainly includes the following structures:
1. Air filtration system
The air filtration system is the most important system to ensure the performance of this equipment, consisting of a driving fan, air duct, circulating air filter, and exhaust air filter. Its main function is to continuously allow clean air to enter the studio, ensuring that the flow rate of the downward airflow (vertical airflow) in the work area is not less than 0.3m/s, ensuring a cleanliness level of 100 in the work area. At the same time, the external exhaust flow is also purified to prevent environmental pollution.
The core component of the system is the HEPA filter, which uses a special fireproof material as the frame. The frame is separated into a grid shape by corrugated aluminum sheets, and is filled with emulsified glass fiber sub particles. Its filtration efficiency can reach 99.99% to 100%. The pre filter cover or pre filter at the air inlet allows air to be pre filtered and purified before entering the HEPA filter, which can extend the service life of the HEPA filter.
2. External exhaust box system
The exhaust box system consists of an exhaust box shell, a fan, and an exhaust duct. The external exhaust fan provides exhaust power to extract unclean air from the working room, and is purified by the external exhaust filter to protect the samples and experimental items inside the cabinet. Due to the external exhaust effect, the working room is under negative pressure, preventing air from escaping from the working area and protecting the operator.
3. Sliding front window drive system
The sliding front window drive system consists of a front glass door, a door motor, a traction mechanism, a transmission shaft, and a limit switch. Its main function is to drive or pull each door shaft to ensure that the front glass door is in its normal position during operation.
4. The lighting source and ultraviolet light source are located inside the glass door to ensure a certain level of brightness in the studio and to disinfect the countertop and air inside the studio.
5. There are devices on the control panel, such as power supply, ultraviolet light, illumination light, fan switch, and controlling the movement of the front glass door. The main function is to set and display the system status.
