Application of PID control technology
Proportional integral derivative controller (PID controller or three term controller) is a control loop feedback mechanism widely used in industrial control systems and various other applications that require continuous modulation control. The PID controller continuously calculates the error value as the difference between the expected set point (SP) and the measured process variable (PV), and applies correction based on proportional, integral, and differential terms (represented as P, I, D, and hence named).
In fact, it will automatically perform precise and timely calibration of control functions. A common example is the cruise control of a car, in which using only a constant engine power will slow down the speed when going uphill. The PID algorithm of the controller restores the measured speed to its expected value with minimal delay and overshoot by increasing the power output of the engine.
The first theoretical analysis and practical application is in the field of ship auto drive system developed in the early 1920s. Later, it was used for automatic process control in the manufacturing industry, where it was widely used in pneumatic and electronic controllers. Today, the concept of PID is widely used in applications that require precise and optimized automatic control.
In fact, whether in the automation industry or in daily life, we all come into contact with PID to some extent. For example, the shadow of PID can be seen on the air conditioning system, cruise control system, and constant pressure water supply system (as shown in Figure 1). The biggest feature of these systems is that we need to set a data we want, and then the device automatically adjusts according to our settings.
For example, in a constant pressure control system, if a pressure (10MPa) is set, the system needs to stabilize at the pressure value I set at around 10MPa; In the air conditioning system, after setting a temperature (26 ℃), we naturally hope that the indoor temperature will remain stable at around 26 ℃. How can the device automatically adjust after we have set the parameters? It is adjusted through the PID function!
